POP-PLOTS
Bedtime story fun and beyond
Overview
This is an educational app proposal presented during my tenure at the Centre of Digtal media in 2013. We proposed to develop an engaging bedtime story app that allows pre-schoolers and younger kids to read stories with kinesthetic, visual and auditory aids .
Extensive researches have been conducted to explore the market potential of children e-book app. Researches showed two thirds of America parents are spending more time with their kids than 10 years ago. Earlychildhoodeducation.com reported children care and education ranked the second biggest spending in household spending, after housing. Parents in general are willing to invest on kids education.
Regarding app purchasing, education is the second biggest categories in app store. They are mostly downloaded by parents.
Target
Audiences
Parents and children entering preschool through to grade three
-
Kinesthetic Learning - Preschool
-
Visual / Auditory Learning – Grades 1/2
Pain Points
Children's storybooks rely on written communication, in many cases this frustrates younger readers who are still learning how to read.
Solution
Pop-Plots allows Children to identify difficult words through the application interface (mobile camera function) then provides a simple visual explanation for the child.
With the well-known story Cat in the Hat, we would like to show you how it works. Please see below a short demo video of the app.
Opportunities
-
Psychologists encourage visual learners to: use visual cues when reading, visual games, and visualization of story
-
Psychologists encourage kinesthetic learners: to use ‘hand on experiments’, fiddle, and feel.
-
This is an undeserved market segment, and represent a significant opportunity
How
PopPlots is a children’s learning application (mobile/IPad) that drives self-teaching opportunities as kids independently read their favorite storybooks.
